Running Accomplishments:

  • started jogging in 2006 to lose weight, had never run more than a mile whole life
  • by end of summer, 2006, had gotten up to 3miles, fell in love with running... well, jogging =)
  • lost 25lbs by dec 06, and was running 4, 5 miles at a time, amazing feeling
  • in early 2007 learned my sister-in-law jeannie was a runner, doing small races, 5k's, 4m races, we started signing up and doing races together
  • in spring of 2007 my sister-in-law jeannie & i decided to do a half marathon, both a first for either of us, and began training
  • mid-summer started having issues with achilios tendon, by september hadn't run more than 8m in one run.  almost backed out of the half marathon, but never quite
  • ran first half marathon in oct 2007, without having run more than 8m in one run... was determined to finish, didn't have to walk, most amazing and wonderful feeling when i crossed the finish line 2:33
  • started weight training during winter of 2007-08, signed up for the 2008 ann arbor dexter half marathon--- goal was to finish faster than first half marathin, finished in 2:15 =)
  • trained during summer for detroit half in oct 2008, had to deal with right calf muscle injury again, finished 2:33 again, was disappointed, wanted to finish under 2:00
  • in february 2009 started having more pain in my right lower leg, thought was muscle, kept running.  by march, was in a lot of a pain, did 8miles but had to walk ever few feet... was horrible pain.  finally went to orthopedic dr in april, had me not run for few weeks, went back in may, did bone scan, stress fracture in tibia bone.  air cast boot, was devastated
  • got air-cast boot off august 28th, went out for 1mile run =)  been slowly ramping up, having to learn to not push my body through bad pain.  runs have been good, a little frustrating with the mileage being so slow to ramp up, but never want to be in the air cast boot again

Short-Term Running Goals:

short term running goal is to be up to 15m a week by february, on track and leg is doing good.

Long-Term Running Goals:

long term goal --- to do ONE whole marathon.  i know my body won't let me do that on a continuous basis, but i want to do ONE, the mental discipline, the feeling of finishing, i want to feel that once in my life

Personal:

married, two boys, 19 & 21, and two grandsons, nathaniel & konner.  nathaniel is 4, goes to some of my races, he's so cute watching grandma run!

beautiful run in the snow today =)  snow flakes coming down slow, landed on my face... felt like a butterfly kiss ;-)  so glad i found running so that i learned to enjoy mother nature throughout the whole year and not just 3-4months of warm weather michigan gets.  snowflakes, running in the metro park on paths through woods....  life is good!

coughing so much, but not deep in my chest so wanted to run.  met jeannie at park, knew would be a tough run with not feeling well.  people suppose to have dogs on leashes at park, darn little yipper dog came after me, totally froze and couldn't even scream because throat is totally raw... argggggh!!  glad i got run in anyways, want to build up my endurance.
